I've got a '96 2.5 SE manual and a '95 2.5 SE auto. I would like to take the factory keyless entry out of the '95 and into the '96. The '96 has power locks, windows, mirrors etc. Does anybody know how difficult this is?

Hey Dog instead of tearing both cars apart why not go with an aftermarket system in the "96." Here are a couple of places that sell remote systems.

www.autoloc.com

www.hotronicsproducts.com

Give a look see.

I would agree with Sarge!! It really would be much easier to buy an aftermarket keyless entry system and install it on your other car. Ripping both cars apart to switch is going to be a lot of work.
The nice thing is that the aftermarket systems aren't that expensive.
Oh, and welcome to the CEG!!

I wasn't sure if it would be a simple matter of unplugging the reciever and plugging it into the other car. It wouldn't be worth it if it is a big hassle, but if it wasn't, I thought it might be kinda cool to not scratch my doors in the dark bar parking lots

I hear yuh there. I just bought my Mystique and it has power door locks but no fob so I guess it doesn't have keyless entry. Don't know if Haynes has a manual for the 00's, I'll have to check Amazon and see, they have pretty good wiring diagrams. It's pretty good bet they have one for th 96, but like you say if it's just a matter of swapping the module from one car to the next that would be cool and very simple.

Crutchfield sells the Crimegaurd REC-11 which includes two keyfobs for $70. Add $30 for the two plug-in harnesses (not required, but they plug right into the factory wiring in your car so you don't need to cut any wires), and you have a keyless entry system for $100.

For comparison, ONE keyfob for the factory keyless entry system is $45..

I don't know for sure if Crutchfield has the plug-in harnesses required for a Contour, they have 'em for my '88 Mustang GT...

Check for the factory keyless entry module in the rightmost corner under the passenger's side dash. It will be mounted on the firewall. It's a gray plastic box with two connectors plugged into the bottom of it.

Thanks guys. The '95 has keyless and I got the fob with it. The '96 has PL with no keyless. I bought both of the contours to replace (and upgrade from) a dying neon. The black '96 was hit lightly in the front, and the purple '95 doesn't have a title, so I was going to use it for parts. It's so nice that I just might see if I can get a title for it and sell it, but not before swapping the leather, CD, and hopefully keyless entry out of it first. If I can't get a title, I will just sell it for parts or to someone who can get a title for it. I've been looking for a nice SE for a while. The difference from my neon to these cars is amazing. They both have close to 100k, and drive like 20k. The quality and feel is on par with some of the best cars I've driven. Just might be a little bit cooler with free keyless entry . I'll check on that module tomorrow when I'm swapping out the leather, thanks Brian.

I haven't owned a Chrysler product in years and I still don't hold them in high regard. Some body on the board was getting a durango well if this pic is any indication of the quality I'd have second thoughts.

not a pretty site wouldn't you say, pay particular attention to the A pillars.

I doubt the roof of that Durango is reinforced to handle a rollover, and that's part of the reason that the deer did so much damage to it. I might be mistaken, but I think the roof of our Contours IS reinforced to handle a rollover (the rubber strips on the roof have something to do with it).
