It was mentioned in another post that Ford stopped put in hood liners to help with the heat problem that was cracking wiring harness. Is this ture and when did they start doing it. I have an E0, built on 5/9/97, and it has a hood liner. I dicussing my wiring harness problem with Ford. They say the CSPA #99M03 was only for 95-97 year models. I'm saying mine was built early in 97 and had a problem with the insullation breaking off the four wires that connect the battery to fuse box. So it should fall under this CSPA or what date or car VIN did the fix get install in.

I can tell you that the replacement wiring harnesses I bought for my '95 all seem to be made with the correct insulation (as determined by applying a lighter to the insulation). They were bought about 3 months ago...so they obviously fixed the insulation problem at some point. No real reason not to, it's pretty much a "no brainer"...use the right stuff!

My 95 had wires flaking apart all over and I had the recall done a while back. The wires leading to the TPS were completely cracked up and exposed. Not sure about the 97s or when the harness supplier problem was corrected.

Where are the best places to look for cracking?
This is definitely a fix you want to get before the recall warranty is up since it's so expensive otherwise.

My 98 E0 SVT's wires that run from the + battery to the fuse block (4 Red #10AWG)had about 2 inches of the insulation missing were the wires turned up into the fuse box. You had to remove the fuse box to see them. Ford says they don't have any record of this being a problem! Ha! Ha!

On the Zetec engines I just posted some pics of where to look on this forum. On the Duratec, it starts at the fuel injection wiring under and near the intake manifold. If you don't want to remove the upper intake manifold to inspect the wires there, try unwrapping some of the split loom tubing/tape near the two 12-prong connectors...evidence of cracking insulation will probably be found there. Unwrap it all the way back to where the wires go under the intake manifold if you have to. Brian Originally posted by Enigma-ai: Where are the best places to look for cracking?

Doubt that heat related to hood liner. My '97 has one, my '98 does not, your's does and I've seen a '99 SVT with one.
