I just got a PCV oil separator in the mail. How do I install this thing? I assume the end with the stopcock should be down, but where do the two elbows hook up to? Also, does this replace the PCV valve? Thanks.

No.

It goes between the PCV valve and the steel tube from the existing oil seperator. Some creativity with rubber hose is helpfull.

I have mine installed after the PCV valve. Between the PCV and the manifold.

I didn't want to tempt fate by subjecting hot PVC pipe to full manifold vacuum.

has anyone ever tried just using a seperate catch tank for the pvc valve/crank breather. i noticed there is a breather for each bank i was thinking to just run them to a seperate catch tank and plug the pipe between the throttle body and afm. but have a filter breather for the catchcan. it worked well in my last car. i did it since i had my manifold polished out. the gunk was real thick.

The PCV system is there to prolong the life of the oil, and therefor the engine.

The hoses on each valve cover are for fresh (dry) air. Blowby gasses contain a lot of water vapor. Blowby increases as the engine wears. The PCV pulls that water vapor out of the crankcase and replaces it with filtered and metered air.

There is already a baffle to help prevent oil from being sucked out of the crankcase. The extra seperator being discussed cuts down on the ammount of oil entering the intake. Oil entering the intake accumulates as sludge on the intake and valves, and reduces the octane of the incoming mixture.

It is recomended that the PCV system be kept intact.
