Hi,

Per my Name, I have purchased a Contour that needs new carpet among other things. While in the process of removing the center console I broke the shifter. It's hard to describe, but for those of you who have removed the shifter before you'll know what I'm talking about. The screw in the side was removed, but the shifter did not budge. Unfortunately I began to twist and that broke the black plastic bottom portion of the shifter and tore the overdrive wires off the button in the shifter. I'm going to try to glue the plastic peice back on and solder the wires back together, but if anyone has any advice let me know. Also if anyone has replaced their carpet before and has any helpful advice, please post. Thanks much.

Posted too soon!

Actually I would either go to a salvage yard and get replacement parts or go to Ford and buy new.

I'd hesitate to glue drivetrain components....

He's talking about the shifter cover. Not the Aluminum Shaft. You can just get a new one from Ford or a Junk Yard. Plus the OD wires could cause a problem if not reattached properly.

That's correct Lee. It looks like the shifter does not come apart as I thought. Apparently I'll be contacting Ford to price this shifter and if it's too much (which it probably will be) I'll go to a salvage yard to see what I can find.
