I am looking at a 99 contour svt. It has 64 kilometers on it (approx 42 k miles) and I can get it for $16,000 (approx $12,000 american). The car is in mint shape but the only thing is the engine has been replaced under warrenty. On one hand I think great, I am getting a new engine...on the otherhand I am worried about little problems that may come up because of the engine swap. I don't have the most confidence in ford technicians after owning a Probe GT for 5 years. Has anyone else had their engine replaced? The owner said that it was engine failure and it was replaced under warrenty. I am looking to make a deal with it possibly within the week. Any advice or experiences would be great.

12,000 for a 42K car is a little High these days. Plus with your concerns about the engine, paying that might be hard to swallow. Offer 10,500 and go from there.

I have a 99 SVT, and had the motor replaced under warranty at 32k, it has 40k now. I had the clutch replaced as well since everything was appart anyway. Since this work was done, I have had a problem with an intermittent but regular hesitation when driving at highway speeds. The dealer says the problem is clutch A/C (whatever that is) but the problem was not present before the work was done. The dash was also replaced under warranty and is now worse than it was before.

$16K for a 99 with that kind of mileage sounds pretty reasonable to me. I'm in Ottawa, and see non-SVT 99 Contours with 75-80K kilometres on them advertised at dealerships for $13-14K.
I wouldn't worry about the new engine, in fact, I'd consider that a bonus.
And as to the hesitation thing the dealer blames on the a/c clutch....that's exactly what it is: the a/c compressor cycling on-and-off. In this case, they really do all do that.

I agree with Steener.
This is a good price, and a new engine really is a bonus.
Just find out if there is some warranty remaining on the car or the swapped out engine.
Always good to have.

Hey Richie $16000 Canadian is closer to $10 000 American. So in that case the car is a good deal.
