Does "escort radar detector" mean it's in an escort? As far as a contour goes. They automaticially shut off with ignition. Mine does at least.

why dont you just hard wire it in to an acc. power supply. the radar detector that is. it would be much easier to do that then to pull the consol and rewire it like that

car is a '00 csvt and my cig. lighter does not turn off with the ignition. I have run a clean extension from the RD under the dash to the cig lighter and now want it to go off with ignition. I want to keep using the cig lighter plug so I can move to other cars still if need be. thanks

you could always add a switch to the cig lighter if that makes ya feel better or unplug it like the rest of us non-lazy people

If you're worried about it shutting off for sake of saving yourself from a dead battery, dont worry. The amp draw is so minimal that you'll never see the effects of it. I've had mine on since i got it over a year ago.

mine stays on when the cars off, so i wired mine in with the sunroof control panel. Now it turns on and off when the ignition is on.
