Pull out the cluster and buy a new temp gauge (fordpartsonline.com- $26 shipped). Isn't really that hard to replace.

This is strange.. All summer my temp gauge used to never come on except for on long trips and hot days.. And when I cleaned my MAF sensor it started working again... It may be a coincidence? I don't know, but it works now..
