Well I took the car into the dealership yesterday to have some stuff fixed and some things looked at. Here's the list:

Running rich on dyno with no CEL (9.5:1 AFR) - Result: MAF was on far end of scale but still within spec, tech replaced the MAF anyway. Other then that they won't do anything else now. I plan on having it dyno'd again and showing them the AFR graph and possibly getting Cats replaced.

Squeaky rear suspension - Result: Couln't find anything wrong.

Door panel rattle - Result: Couldn't find anything wrong.

Plastic piece between steering wheel and dash not installed right from factory and rattles- Result: I had to go out and show the tech what was wrong, still not done.

Look at bubbles on dash - Result: Ford has authorized a new dash!

The last one concerns me. I just bought the car NEW in December. Acording to Fords computer system the dealer I got it from replaced the dash back in June (note the word REPLACED, not repaired...I have no rivets). But after this dealer sent pictures of my new bubbles to Ford, they authorized replacement. So according to Fords system, this will be the 3rd dashboard that this car will see.

Anyone else have this problem. The bubbles look like small blisters on the dashboard. None are bigger then a quarter and there are approximately 8 or so on various spots on the dash. They are actually pretty hard to see unless the lighting is right. Is this how dash warp actually starts?

Tell me what you guys think on all of my issues. I just thought I'd post on what is going on with my car.

I know it was a recall for the 1998.5 models and above. Take advantage of the free dash. Only problem is Ford replaces their recalled parts with new recalled parts (did that to my dad's Windstar's front suspension springs).

I also have a 2000 with bubbles on the dash. They feel like soft spots. I have also heard a few pops from the dash so the dash warp must be on the way. Time to take it in. This will be its first trip to the dealer in 21,000 miles.

I don't think mine had bubbles but has curved and the plastic piece that deflects the defogger error doesn't fit anymore (pops up on both sides). Will be taking it in soon also, wish me luck :-)

IF they can't fix it in 3 tries doesn't your car fall under the lemon law? They would have to replace it...right?

They have a tendency of doing that. Mine was replaced, then repaired, and has bubbles again. And don't get too excited about the Lemon Law. It only applies to things that affect the safety or value of the vehicle. A buubly dash wouldn't cut it. Good luck.

I think that is for major items like trans and such.

In most states the lemon law pertains to any defect that has not been repaired after 3 tries. It is a pain in the arse to get them to take back the car though. It has to be documented as the same problem all 3 times. We are dealing with it with my wife's Kia Sephia. SVTflyboy has been having probs with his svt tour for almost a yr now. It stalls on him all the time. He is giving up on dealing with Ford on it and getting an Excursion. They have replaced all kinds of crap on his but it continues to stall and they will not take it back.

Good Luck!

OK, the bubbles and the dash warp are different issues (but connected). The "bubbles" are voids (air pockets) in the dash foam backing. The warping is the seperation of the dash cover from the foam.

These are both symptomatic of the sh*tty dashes from TRW on the 99-2000 model tours'n'tiques.

The second dash was a TRW replacement of the same type (as is mine). The third dash has supposedly been re-manufactured to solve the problem.

I hadn't heard that Ford was replacing the dashes with voids. I was just going to live with 'em, but I guess I'll b*tch when I take old Zeitgiest in for its 20,000 mile lube next week.

Got any documentation that I can show my dealer, so he can show Ford?
