Ok, I am still rather new around here, and usually read posts instead of write them, but I am curious : why doesn't anyone order Mondeo parts for there Contours? I think it is the ST200 or something like that with a killer front end! And those Morette headlamp conversions are awesome when they are painted to match the car! Just curious...
98 CSVT, 17" Konig Absolute (that gun metal colour) and my stereo... so far...

from past reading, i dont know about the front end, but the morette headlight conv. takes quite a bit of modification, look very slick though.

Heres one reason...$$$$$$$ The other reason also has to do with $$$$$$ and amount of work making the rear end w/ its hatchback work I think if you were to ask around theres a number of things you can do to your CSVT to make it more unique, i.e. muratic acid dip the chrome grill ring and have it painted body color (like the Mondeo), convert the rear tailights/center reflector over to the Mystique set up, thus removing more chrome (more Euro), pre-98 sail panels and A6 side markers, again, more European-lookin'

It's like Roger said, a money thing. The two cars look at first glance to be nearly identical, but in reality are pretty different due to differences in Eurp and American safety standards and such.

I was thinking this a while back.... If money isn't an issue ( right...), and say you own a junk 96 Contour, couldn't you import/buy a 96 Mondeo (mk2) in Mexico, then come up here and put your Contour badges in place of Mondeo and put your plates on it? As long as they were the same color, I don't think you'd have many problems. Only one I can think of is disposing the now title-less Contour. Not sure if that would work everywhere, but I'm sure it would work in Iowa, since there are no inspections here (not even to get plates). I know it's a dumb idea, but couldn't it happen?

Ah but you have to give your VIN to get your plates and also to get rid of the car they do some vin checking, your VIN coming up in 2 different places might get suspicious.

there was someone on here a while back that was doing euro part sourcing for us. i forget whom and you'd have to search the archives.
bunch of people got the chrome door pulls, the trip computer i think one person had MOSTLY working, there was a possibility of the euro headlight switch, but that didn't do much different than the fog conversion. and then there was the hvac cluster that no one had working AFAIK.
i toyed with getting the steering wheel also, which has a blue/white ford logo, and the st200 wheel has a blue leather insert at wheel top.
and stereo remote controls (would have to handwire them, or adapt them to an aftermarket HU)
the climate control would be super slick, but that conversion is difficult. it has a seperate A/C switch, which actually wouldn't be that bad, but the automatic temp stuff would require a lot of the mondeo wiring and possibly dual computers.
okay i did the search and found some threads on cool stuff:

the only thing i ask is that you get an extra one and donate it to me.

"..couldn't you import/buy a 96 Mondeo (mk2) in Mexico,"
Mexico got the NA spec Contours like we did back then. Remember they made Contours in Mexico, too.
Also, customs wouldn't allow it anyway. VW Bug (old style)fans have been trying to import "new" air cooled Beetles for years.
At this point, I think it's time to let go of the "why didn't Ford bring the Mondeo here".
