Search on this subject turned up a bazillion conflicting opinions but no specifics on Ford capacity / type recommendation. Glove box handle is broken off so have not been able to get to owners manual. I want to change the oil this weekend but don't know oil capacity or (Ford's) oil type recommendation. I'd like to go synthetic due to the high revving nature of the engine. Can AMSOIL be purchased locally, or does it have to be ordered from the factory?

I bought my Contour in January as a 96 with 48,000.. Alas now she has 62,000... Anyway, I have no idea on the Amsoil question.

The local NAPA store has an AMSOIL sign in the window... but I'm just as content to use MOBIL 1.

BTW, you're not that old...my first NEW car was a 1971 Fiat 850 Spider convertible.

:: Brag Mode::ohh yeah i got a 95 gl with 51K. ::Brag mode::

Anyhow yeah the ford manual says 5w30, some people say 10w30, like jiffy lube. I told them last time i wanted 5w30. Now the ford book says 4.5 quarts which would put it exactly in between the two notches, but jiffy lube always puts 5 quarts. So do other repair shops. This one dude told me i was leaking oil because it only had 4.5 quarts so he put in another quart and charged me alot for it. Bass-turd.

Dont know if its bad to have 5 quarts in it, only 1/2 more than reccommended.

Gave up trying to buy AMSOIL locally. Ordered 5W-30, Engine Flush and oil filter directly from the AMSOIL online store. I should have it in the car by next Monday ==> more REVS on Tuesday!
