On 11/14/94, I picked up my 1995 Mystique LS at (then) Krug L-M in Dearborn MI. So I think I'm one of the few, if not the first still here, to celebrate 9 years of ConTique ownership! I imagine there's probably some Mondeo owners pushing 10 years out there...

Sadly, despite all the care, mods, and "only" 77K miles, I'm finding that it's not worth much (hardly anything) and I've already moved on from the car in my mind. My latest mod is a 3-liter Duratec - but that's attached to a new '04 Mazda 6s 5-speed so I think I'm going to leave it there. I'm planning on keeping the Mystique for one more winter, and then I'll be trying to sell it in the spring.

It was in good shape just a year or two ago... but my custom-painted trim is peeling, my front bumper underhang looks like ass from a collision with a curb, the ABS/TC don't work and the dash lights are on (wasted a grand trying to fix it), mileage is horrible, throws CEL all the time, interior is showing its age... and I already have a replacement for it, sitting in the garage waiting for spring.

No regrets, no rants - car has been good to me, but it just needs more care than I can give it (or is worth paying to have done) and needs a better home. I've gotten my $ worth and thank the CEG for the help and fun along the way. I imagine I'll be finding it's new home via CEG when the time comes.

Happy motoring,
-Peter

Man, congrats on the new car.

I was wondering what will happen to this GREAT and AMAZING site after 2008 when the 00's will be like yours.

It must be preserved as a big asset of car information for the humanity. (Almost breaking into tears)

I've had my mystique for 9 years (also got it in 11/94). I am the original owner and it is in pretty good shape *knocks on wood*

Hey Peter! I was wondering what happened to you a week or three ago. Haven't seen a post from you on the mailing list in ages!

Next year is the 10th anniversary, so CEG should celebtate it somehow. Lots of discontinued cars have fan clubs that keep things going, even the Chevy Corvair. With Fords, there are clubs for Falcons, Mavericks, older T-Birds.

No need to worry, cars should be around awhile yet.

wow... I'll take that as a compliment, other people posting pix of MY car

Perry - I found the mailing list(s) to be overwhelming, combined with a) the amounts of spam that I get and b) I'm out of town for weeks at a time for travel, and while I tried to manage my subscription(s), I just gave up and agreed that the forums were more efficient. I've been mostly lurking here the whole time but only got into the habit of posting here (and then occasionally at best) in the last year or so.

When I got my Mustang in 2000 and it became my "nice day" car (convertible, but v6 and automatic - not nearly as fun to drive as the Mystique) and then bought my house in 2001 - one mile away from my office, which is just killing the car - the slow demise of my Mystique began and the $1000 ABS/TC episode (see "brakes" forum/archive) finally diminished my "enthusiasm" for the car and I set my sights on the 6.

All in all, I had really good luck with the Mystique... given the endless horror stories heard here about catastrophic failures (cats, engines, trannies) and, frankly, what to expect from a 9-year old American car. We've come a long way, but (hoping not to start the US/Japan jihad) I imagine if my car was a 9-year old Honda or Toyota with only 77K miles, it might not be as much fun BUT I might not be in as much of a hurry to part with it...

cheers,
-Peter
