I apologize if this has been answered before, I looked through the archives but still not clear on this. Do I need the friction modifier with Ford's new synthetic tranny fluid? (XT-M5-QS) '99 SVT Thanks.

Off the top of my head, I think with the "honey" you don't need the FM. You only need the FM with synthetic Mobil 1, I think.
Old car: '98 SVT T-Red
K&N air filter; Ford Focus RS shift knob. Off to be auctioned off somewhere.
New car: 2003 Honda Accord DX Sedan, 5-speed.

I started off with the straight Ford "honey", but shifting was worse than with the Mobil1 / FM cocktail.
I since added 2 oz. of FM to the Ford fluid, and shifting is much better than it ever was with the cocktail.
Hope this helps.

I also have the Ford "honey" with friction modifier. It works very well.

THE REDLINE MTL HAS FRICTION MODIFIER IN IT. Kinger posted that for a reason.

I suspect that the Red Line doesn't have enough friction modifier, if it did, it would shift as good as the Mobil 1 cocktail, ATF+3, or Ford "honey" with friction modifier.
You should realize that there is some level of friction modifier in many trans fluids. Mercon has friction modifier in it, but not enough.

I feel the Redline MTL shifts much better then the Mobil 1 with FM cocktail. It was a noticeable difference.
I also don't see why it would be a significantly worse cold shifting fluid. It has the same viscosity as ATF when it's cold.
I have been very happy with the results to date and there is no arguing that is protects much better.
