No motor on this one. I found a '01 Giant NRS XTC1 in mind condition with low miles. I just wanted to share a couple pics and get some overall opinions from the mtn bikers out there.

What's your reasoning for not digging Giant? Just curious.

The bike was in the $800 range.

Any other riders out there that would like to add their two cents?

I had a Giant until recently. I loved that bike. It was great! I bought it in 98' and just sold it this year. It was very reliable and built solidly. Only problem I ever had was the shiters. They were grip shifters and they would alway come out of alignment and the gears would be off sometimes. I shoulda just upgraded them, but I was lazy. I going to upgrade to a Gary Fisher or Cannondale. I haven't picked up my new bike yet, but I will come spring time. Right now I'm focusing on learning to ride a motorcycle.

Nice purchase. A few of my friends had this bike while I was working at a shop and the bike really impressed me. There were a few things I noticed about it though.

1) It take alot of fiddling to get the rear shock set up. If it's not set up right for "YOU" it will fee like you are riding a pogo stick, espically if you have too much air in the rebound side.

2) If you are long in the torso....Gaints are not for you. Whenever I have ridden I Giant bike I have always felt really crammed wrt the cockpit length

3) This comes as a word of caution. As nicely built and as light as the frame is.....be very careful with it. The tubes taper to be "VERY" thin in the middle of the top and down tubes (just flick on it with your fingernail....it will sound like an aluminum can). I can't tell you the number of time I have seen one of those frames dent from falling over from what I consider to be a height you shouldn't have to worry about. Just be careful and you'll have no problem.

Also on a side note. If you ever travel with your bike on an airplane...pack extra padding around the frame. A jerk airport worker's boots can dent your frame real badly. My friend learned that the hardway.

Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for the indepth reply considering things to look out for. To kind of reply to the torso statement I would like to point out that I have put on decent hours on a XCT2 hardtail and havent seen symptoms of the torso problem you speed of. Judging by this would you say I am in the clear? The XTC2 was a 19" frame my NRS is 18.5".

I am so excited for it to come, I am sure I will be in heaven once it gets here! And I will post some more indepth photos once I receive it.

Hi Brian- I have a '2000 Giant NRS XTC1 (purchased new in 8/00). It's a great bike, very reliable and an unbeatable best buy in 2000 (discs, SIDs, etc). Still all original except for a new XT cassette and PanaRacer Tires. I can go on and on about it's best qualities, but it would be easier to talk about the few (possible negatives).

1- Rear suspension locks up when braking (makes you more sensitive to picking the best line).
2- If your 200+ pounds like me, it's almost impossible to get enough rebound control out of the rear shock (never got this completely sorted out).

That's it. The bike flies, especially downhill. Play nice with the trees.

Russ
