I get this weird clattering sound sometimes, not clicking or ticking... only when the car is at operating temperature, it only happens at about 2,500 rpms. it happens if I'm in gear or not, moving or stopped, giving it gas or letting the rpms fall, always and only at 2,500 rpms. It seams like this would indicate that something is vibrating, but why only when hot? my buddies integra's manifold heatsheild vibrates at 2,700 rpms hot or cold and sounds very different. It is not the same sound as the rasp I get for a minute and a half when the exaust is cold...
also for the last two days my thermostat has been reporting an almost constant N (as in NORMAL) but it does sometimes get hotter... this is not typical of my car and I havent made any ventilation improvements to the engine bay.
at 59k, the car feels absolutly great, no other problems; My water pump went about 8k ago, but I noticed the thermostat heading for the peg (I'm rather OCD about that) and no apparent damage was done.
any ideas?
