In my previous posts I have described the hell I have gone through with a Ford dealership since June trying to get my car running correctly after a headgasket repair. ($3000) The car overheated pretty badly and has run terribly ever since. Currently it has the following problems:

CEL code 0455
Car starts and dies
Car stalls while driving

And to top it off, now 4 months later, the trans has gone. Or so I think it has. My questions are:

Could the failure of the trans possibly be related to, or as a result of, the overheating?
If not why do they just go?
Is there a possiblity it could be something simpler than having to rebuild or buy a new trans? It goes in reverse, but won't move forward in any gear.
I checked the fluid and it was a reddish color. If it was burnt what color would it be?
I already bought a new car but I still might fix this one. If it is a failed trans which is the best way to go, rebuild mine, buy one, and how do I find someone to do it without ripping me off? OR...

Anybody want to buy a loaded 98 Contour w/69,000 miles that only goes in reverse when, and if, it starts?

Sounds like the forward clutch pack could have burnt up or just plain gave out. Could also be the forward sprag. At any rate, I would think a rebuild or reman is in order.

Could it be caused by the engine overheating? Well, yeah. But proveing that would take an act of congress and a few saints! Then you would have to convience the dealer that they are responsible. It would be a daunting task, but if you had the proof - then I guess it could be done.
