I have an exhaust shop chop my SE's exhaust off about 3 feet from the back, and they replaced it with a "Y" pipe. This was to fit the new SVT rear bumper I got. The exhaust has no mufflers, and the size of the pipes are 1 7/8 inches. (oh yeah it sounds pretty good too ) Now, the problem I'm having is after about 6300 rpm my power dropps WAAAY off, and it even backfired on me at 6700! Is this a case of not enough backpressure, or too much backpressure?? Also how bad is it to run the car this way??

Sounds like the piping is too small for the exaust flow. You might want to go up to 2"

The pipe sizes on an SE are 2.25" all the way through. The SVT is 2.5 at the Converter, and drops to 2.25 on each pipe after the split.
You need a muffler, either in place of the resonator, or on each of the pipes after the split. Most people put a high flow glass-pak in place of the resonator, and replace the rear mufflers with pipe.
I dropped my exhaust and replaced it with a used SVT exhaust, minus the resonator.
SOUNDS GOOD...mmmmmmmmm

YEAH, YOU CAN ONLY GO TO A BIGGER PIPE, NOT TO A SMALLER PIPE FROM A BIGGER PIPE.. TOO MUCH BACK PRESSURE.

So it has too much backpressure?? Even though I went form a single exhaust setup with a muffler (witch mufflers produce backpressure) to a duel setup, which has more piping and probably all together would equal about a 2.5" exit (combinding the 2 pipes into their square areas). Sorry if I talk stupid, but I'm not firmiliar with exhaust too much. Anyway, how bad is it to run my car this way if it has too much/ too little backpressure

It's bad... If your backfiring, your risking some potential cylinder and or cat damage. The Y pipe to smaller pipe  doesn't make any sense and will make a mess up your exhaust flow.

SE Stock exhaust is 2" piping. SVT stock is 2.25".

At the engine rpm you listed.... you could be hitting the rev limiter / fuel cut off limiter. The ECU is designed to keep you from over revving the engine. I think it backs off the timing and starts to shut off the injectors, thus preventing you from over revving the engine.

FWIW...now such thing as too little back pressure...only an non-updated calibration/intake system to match it!
