I seem to be doing that with alarming frequency. You'd think I'd learn my car's rythms after two years. For the most part, I have. But sometimes I push it. And then there's the matter of the fuel sending unit. Ever since it had the flapper recall performed, it just doesn't read properly; neither completely full nor totally empty. The "walking light" has never turned on since the repair. I KNOW Courtesy Motors screwed the sender up when they worked on it (they dropped the tank when they didn't need to), and, of course, they won't take responsibility for it.
Do the aftermarket fuel pumps come with sending units built in, like with the factory units? I've seen just a pump alone, but I wonder if the picture is just a generalization and not application-specific. Or, if the aftermarket pump IS separate, if a sending unit is available, too. I don't want to replace the pump just to get to the sender... not because of the difficulty, but the wasted money: $265, last I checked, for factory.
