Hi everyone,
I am having problems with the coolant, it leaks a lot,
I have filled with about half gallon in this month, eek
The last time I saw it leaking I oppened the car and the coolant rservoir was boiling and a lot of water was laeking from the cap, The cap seal looks fine, There is not any overheating, but after it drops the water the radiator light is on, just by the level.
Any idea of what should I check?? confused

I often had to add more coolant into my car because the light was going on at a daily basis. I bought some of this stop-leak addidtive for radiators and the leakage stopped. I haven't had to put anymore coolant in after 1500 miles of driving. The stuff actually works, and it is only like 3 or 4 bucks. However, if you say its boiling in your resevoir, then it does sound like overheating to me. Might want to get that checked out.

Try replacing the cap anyway. If there are no obvious drips anywhere, it could be that the cap isn't holding pressure. Since raising the pressure raises the boiling point, a faulty cap could also cause boilovers. Also, check your oil for coolant contamination (it'll be milky). If it is, then your solution will likely be more expensive.

Sounds like your cooling system is over pressure which is a sign of a blown head gasket....

There is not contamination in the oil, so luckly is not a blown head gasket,
Probably is the cap that is not holding the pressure as you said, But I am not sure if other thing can cause it, Not excesive fuel consupmtion, just like 25 MPG in the city with 93 octanes,
I also noticed that the temperature moves a lot from N-O to M , is it normal?? (is oscilates)
but never over M (here is a little hot 35-40C, 95-107F the most of the time)
i am new with this car, does it have just one radiator cap (the reservoir one) or has two as other cars? (one in the radiator and one in the reservoir)
Any other clue??

With the very hot temperatures we have had lately, my temp gauge is going between O-R and back again. Especially if I drive it and then sit and then drive again.

The electric fan comes on around the 'O' mark. Today, it never got above the 'O' driving around town with the a/c on.

Unfortunately, I haven't paid much attention to the temperature over the years (until now that my water pump blew up last week.) So I don't know what is normal. I seem to remember it on the 'N' most of the time with sometimes hitting the 'R' after driving up and down hills.

I also remember the radiator fan was often on when I got home, so obviously the gauge would have been up to the 'O' at that point.

Does that help?

Normal is just that. Mine gets to about midway before the auxiliary electric fan comes on (the loud one), then it drops back to O. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, the only cap in the system is on the overflow reservoir, none on the radiator.
