Munched a rod bearing on my 95SE and just bought a 96 mystique engine on Ebay. To the best of my knowledge, this should pretty mutch bolt in. I know the 96 duratecs used the electricaly operated IMRC while my 95 uses the vacuum actuation. Anyone see any problems with swapping UIM and LIM from my 95 to the 96 engine?
Also, I will probably rebuild my old engine myself. I am not anticipating any major machine work to be nescessary (I hope!) as it only ran for about 40 seconds at idle with the bad bearing, just long enough for me to crall under and put a mechanics stethascope on the oil pan. Oil pressure stayed good.(Sucker gave out right in my driveway!)
Has anyone here actually rebuilt a 2.5 themselves ? If so how hard was it and how expensive to do? I've rebuilt a bunch of small block Chevy's and a couple of Mazda 4 cylinders, so per se rebuilding an engine is NOT new to me. Any info would be helpfull!

Slow night, as you can see by views on your thread. A search using 'engine swap', while waiting for replies, might be productive.

I can't say for sure on the LIM but the UIM should go on with no issues. I've had both a 97 and a 95 down to the LIM but never paid much attention to the difference on the IMRC actuation. Chance are you could fabricate it to work should you need to. One thing that could make it harder to do is the ULIM on the 95 is always open when the engine is off. Turning the engine on causes them to close at that point. Not sure if that would be different once connected to the cable of the IMRC on your 96. Sorry I can't really help solve your delima.

Hoping to sidestep that issue by swaping entire UIM/LIM from the 95, so long as the mounting bolt pattern is the same. I'll give the intake a thorough cleaning before I do to get any crud out.
Thanks
