I have a 96 tour atx with 78000 miles. At about 45 mph I get a ticking from the right front side of my car. It only does it over 45 mph and it will sometimes be loud and at others very faint. I had a car pull up along side, and it was very loud. Any Ideas? The closest thing I can say it sounds like is a rock in the tire tread but there are none. Thanks for any help.

mine used to do the same thing but it went away. someone at work suggested that it might be one of my brake pads moving slightly in the caliper, back and forth hitting it therefore making that ticking sound. don't know if that's your problem but it worth checking out.

Sometimes when I'm driving at high RPMs for an extended period, I too hear kind of a faint ticking/pinging sound. What I did was I started using higher octane gas, and they went away. Just my 2 cents smile
