i've had my 98 Contour SE for about 7 months, ever since i've had it takes about 2-3 seconds of
cranking before it starts...it has never actually failed to start so i've never really worried about
it...but just wondering is this common with other contours, or is there any way to fix this...

Thanks

Sounds normal to me. That's about how long it takes my V6 to fire. Of course maybe my battery is weak. laugh My car isn't my daily driver.

I've noticed that when the car has been sitting for a while (overnight, for example), it takes a moment while the fuel pump brings up the pressure in the fuel line.

Wouldn't consider it normal, my cars start instantly. Try turning key to run, listen for fuel pump to stop and then start. If it starts instantly you may have a "retention of fuel pressure" problem.
