The way you can tell is drive the thing, and if you think it's weak, I mean WEAK, then it's probably shot. Get someone with a simular powered car to drive behind you as you floor it. Or you can always open the hood, find the linkage, rev the engine (you have to get it to like 5500 RPM because your car isn't moving) and watch it. The "arm" you can watch is located under where the throttle body sits.

You can also check IMRC operation by opening the throttle by hand when under the hood. Try to do this when the engine is fully warmed up, as revving a cold engine will lead to problems later down the road. As you throttle up (slowly) you'll see the IMRC linkage rotate under the throttle body at around 4000rpm.
You're not the first person to ask this, so I'm thinking I may try to swing videotaping the IMRC in action so people can compare a working IMRC to their cars.

I thought mine was bad, but decided that it hauled too much butt to not be working. My Haynes manual doesnt say anything about this contraption.
Thanks Blaze
