Hello all
I have a 1998 Contour 4 cyl Zetec with the automatic tranny. It has terrible speedometer problems as follows:
-Speedo/Odometer/fuel guage work sporadically
-Sometimes while drivingthe speedo will suddenly come back to life, the airbag warning light will shine for a few seconds. The speedo may or may not continue to work.
-The cruise control is un-affected. It still works whether or not the speedo is working.
Please help me!!!

Loose wire, happenend to me in my probe when we did the clutch. Forgot to take the speedo wire off and snapped it. When we put it all back together we attached the wire best a we could but it came loose and made the speedo work sporatically at best. A lil WD-40 helped it. It souunds like yours is some kind of power wire with the same thing happening and since the cruise is controlled independantly of the speedo it is fine.

Your speedo/odo/fuel gauge and several others gauges are powered by F30. If you aren't experiencing other problems like your PATS or power antenna (not sure if you have them) then it could be your C808a connector which is under the instrument cluster.

You can dissasemble it and look for a loose connector. Here is a link to a How-to at Autozone.com

Hope this helps.
