To anybody with input:

I own a 2000 Contour SVT. Like many others I have had issues with the throttle hang problem.
I also have read about people cleaning specific things like the throttle body, IAC, and other parts. I have performed the throttle hang fix by using the HOW TO section of the site. By the way thanks to the people who put this site together and to all of the people who are in this forum. You all have helped me ideas for mods and other very useful info.

Back to the problem at hand. Like I said I have already performed the throttle hang fix. The hang in between gear changes and slow engine deceleration is gone. But, I have a new problem, high idle. It starts off at about 2k rpms when the engine is first started and the eventually settles into about 1250 rpms.

Please help??

Thanks to everybody in advance for the replies. The forum community here seems to be very helpful and I know somebody will have some good info.

Thanks,

Did you reset the ECU? Remove battery cable for at least 5 minutes. Hook cable back up. Start you car and let idle for 5 minutes (don't touch accelerator).
Kill the engine, start it back up and drive away.

I have the TH fix and I have to reset the ECU every couple of months. Works every time.
Good luck!

A likely cause is a dirty throttle body and / or a dirty / binding / sticking idle air control valve. Try cleaning the throttle body and the IAC, then follow up with resetting the computer. If you pull the fuses from the fuse panel under the hood that involve the EEC system instead of disconninting the battery, you will not need to reset the radio station presets or the clock. Check your owner's manual to see which fuses they are. On my 98 it is fuses #4 and #11, but i understand that it is different on the 2000.

If the IAC is binding and cleaning it doesn't help, it will need to be replaced. Is you car still under warranty? Another ocasional culprit is the throttle position sensor, but it is far less common.

I think it is very likely that cleaning your throtte body and IAC will solve your problem.

Thanks for the info.

I am not a mechanic but if I get the Haynes manual, this should be easy right? I have no idea where the IAC is located. I do know where the Throttle Body and Intake Manifolds are. If anybody has any pictures I would greatly appreciate it. One more thing, is it really worth cleaning the IAC or should I just replace. Is the only place to get the IAC at the dealer?

Thanks to all who have or will reply!

If your IAC can be cleaned up, try it. A new one is about $80 at the dealer. Might want to check for a loose or leaking hose while your looking around. The TH fix will actually *DROP* the idle too low if the hole is too small. 1250 is about 500 higher than nromal. confused
