1999 V6 SE Sport

A couple weeks ago I had a CEL P1518. I took off the IMRC, looked at it shook it to see if it rattled. It didn't. I put it back on and the CEL went away. Good I thought. I will fix it later. Now, the CEL light is back on. I suspect the same thing.

This doesn't disturb me as much as a new noise I have found. It only seems to happen under load. A rev at idle and I can't here it. If I try accelerate up a hill or something, I hear it. Its not a loud sound, but it sounds like a metal-metal tapping noise. I have about 76,000 on my contour.

My first guess is maybe a bad bearing, but why only under load?

Could it be something with the IMRC error?

Please help!

Shaking the IMRC does not fix it.

Rattle or pinging can be EGR, dirty MAF, or a tank of bad gas. Couple of other things too, but try those first.

Same thing happened when my IMRC cable broke. Light but constant detonation under load. Sounded like someone swirling BB's in a glass jar.
