Battery is shot... slow crank (but starts), hooked up one of my other cars and and no drag. What group size? I looked on the Sears website and it gave 0 results confused I found another website which listed group size 47, and the part number for a diehard... which is an international battery confused

Yes, it is an 'international' size battery, remember we all trace our heritage back to the Mondeo, designed in Europe. Just got a shipment of parts: a timing belt tensioner made in England, and an idler pulley from Luxembourg.

Sears has an international Die Hard that is $80-$90 IIRC but the cheaper option is good ol' Motorcraft (~$50). Search the forum archives for many discussions of battery options.

Motocraft has extended their battery warranty to 8 years pro-rated with a 3 year replacement warranty. Just get a motocraft as it will save you time as it just drops in with no mods.

I spent $70 on a Motorcraft with a 18 month replacement/84 month pro-rated warranty. Seemed like a good deal to me, especially since it had more CCAs than stock (obsolete) battery.

EDIT: Figures I buy one of the last batteries before they extend the warranty.

My first DieHard "died hard" after about 6 mo. The warranty replacement has been good for over 3 years now. It's a Die Hard International #31247.

When my battery failed too late to get one from the local dealer and not wanting to drive 60 miles to work the next day after a jump start, I went to Sears.

The battery they catalog for our car is a little smaller than the original, but I had a cooperative counter guy who helped me find another in their International group that was the same size as the original. The CCA is 700. The price was the same (about $100.00).

It would have cost me about half that if I had driven to work, but the risk of driving that far with the alternator on full output could have been far more costly, not to mention the real posibility of getting stranded if the car stalled.

Anyway, if you end up with the DieHard International, ask for one that matches the size of the original.

That's what I was guessing... our Mondeo heritage wink

Called the dealer and they have one that is 11 3/8 high (650 cca) and one that is 9 1/2 (590 cca), which is it? (98 zetec) confused oh, and it's $60 wink

does anyone know what the warranty is on the battery that comes with the car, mine is a piece of **** (partly due to running multiple amps) and I don't want to buy a new one if I don't have to

I got a Penske from Kmart last year that was a direct drop-in replacement. IIRC, it has a two year free replacement warranty. It was $50.
I think they may be named something else now, since Penske split with Kmart.
Don't waste your time with those "international", one-size-fits-all types since they don't.
