To refresh, I had a miss fire in Cyl. 4. I changed plugs and wires and no difference. Checked code again and........Ok, Code is 0304 (or P0304). They reset the check engine light. The car worked fine for the next 20 miles. Later in the day it started its old stuff again but the check engine light did not come on for another 12-15 miles. ???? I also noticed a bit of an oil smell with the air on. I'm afraid to ask but is it related?? How can I figure out what this thing is doing??

hey i had a similar problem with my SVT just recently.

Ford replaced my ECU since changing plugs didn't cure the problem (I would go about 20 miles or more and it would start up again)

I had the same thing happen to me after I put a new moter in my svt Went one for months the put new valve springs in mine
it has not came back on oh the did lots of other stuff befor they did this one thank god for a warranty

Some Advance Autos, that have the new testing equipment, can test coil packs (free!).

Don't know about the oil smell...probably something unrelated. Does it smell like burning oil? Did you change the oil recently - if so, could be spilled oil burning off exhaust - nothing to worry about.

Does it perhaps smell like antifreeze? Could be leaking heater core. Coolant level OK? Windows fogging or film on windows? Wet carpet?
