My sunroof is stuck in the vent position. It is not raining yet (thank god)!

I turned by dome light on and when I pressed the sunroof switch either way the dome light dims a bit. This gave me an indication that power is getting to the sunroof motor, but all is dead otherwise.

Any advice, thanks.

I did a search on CEG and there is tons of information on the moonroof.

Chris Hightower did an incredible job on his explanation one of the possible problems.
See:
web page

The test I did with the dome lights dimming when I pressed the moonroof switchs proves that current is getting to the motor. This would then rule out the deadspot problem with the motor.

Something must be binding the motor then. Where are the scews hidden on the cover assembly. Any tricks I should know beforme removing it?

Ok, I just got it closed right when the first rain drops were falling (not joking)!

I did this in the parking lot at work.

This is what I did:

Get a small flat head screwdriver.
You will need to remove the domelight/readinglight assembly.

On the rear edge of the domelight/readlight assembly pry gently one each edge, the entire light fixture will pop out. Unplug it from the wire assembly.

You will see two large phillip screws that holds the roof console cover. Remove them. Slide the console towards the rear of the car to remove it.

You now have clear view of the motor assembly.

I tapped it a couple of times with a wrench then pressed the switch and nothing happened. Then I just wiggeled the entire motor assembly a couple of times and pressed the switch, and the sunroof closed.

I am happy I got it closed for now. When I get home to night I may have another look at it.

This same thing happened to me twice. The first time I took it to ford. They replaced the motor, thank god it was covered under the warrinty, I think the bill was close to $400. Then it happened again this summer. I left it open all day at work, came out and it would not close. I drove home parked it and when I left later after the sun had set it worked fine. I havent left it open sitting out in the sun since, and have yet to have any more problems. I think there is a cheap plastic part that warps in extreme heat.

Mine did the same thing! I fixed it a year ago and have had no more problems since, heres what I did. After you have removed the overhead console exposing the drive motor you will see a phillips head screw that holds the motor onto the drive casing. Loosen that screw about 1/4 to 2/3 of a turn. The problem is the gear mesh is too tight. By loosening the screw you loosen the gear mesh and it will not stick again. Give it a try. wink
