On one of the other forums here, someone mentioned that folks over in Mexico are able to get the new Mondeo. After looking through the Ford Mexico site, I was able to find that the car is available new there. How would one go about importing a car to the U.S. from Mexico? Since the car was built for the mexican market, it can't be much different than the versions built for other countries, no?

Jeeesh I wouldn't think it would be that hard try to contact a dealer in mexico and ask them how much taxes and if you would be able to bring the car acrosss the border. Hoping the emissions are almost the same I wouldn't bet that much on it though because I heard the air in mexico city is like smoking 2 box of ciggarettes a day...

Its not all that easy... you have to certify that the car is in compliance with federal guidelines (DOT for safety regulations and EPA for emissions regulations). If it is not, it must be modified to meet all guidelines. I don't know if Ford builds Mexican Mondeos to comply with US regulations. You'll also have to pay a 2.5% duty.

The main thing would be getting it to comply with US EPA regulations. And then there's the taxes.

You're talking a few thousands easy on top of the price.

And then you have to worry about servicing the thing.

That's because there are 500 trillion people in Mexico city, and alot of the cars there are not exactly new. THe Mondeo is probably twin to the Euro Mondeo, so it would be a low emissions vehicle. It more than likely poops cleaner air than what it sucks in

I don't think it is possible with the laws, but why bother? The Mazda 6 is a better car anyway and the current Euro Ford Mondeo is due to be based on this platform soon.
