A small but terribly annoying problem: my interior lights are staying on even after I close all my doors.

The obvious culprit is that one of the four door switches is malfunctioning--these tend to break off or get stuck--and thus the electrical system "thinks" one of the doors is still open. But in my case, all the switches seem to be in perfect condition.

If it's not the switches, why might the interior lights stay on? Nothing else electrical is giving me a problem.

Any ideas most appreciated.

I had the same problem on both my 96 contours. Had to turn the dome light off for night driving, and the floor lighting always stayed on.

I removed all the door switches and took a knife to the holes to make sure that the switches were getting a good ground.

Seem to have fixed the probem. The switches are otherwise junk.

Maybe this is obvious, but did you check the instrument panel dimmer switch. All the way to full bright it turns on the interior lights. It may be on or shorted. Worth a look.
