I suggest that any and everone that has had an oil leak on the drive belt side of the engine try using electrical cleaner supplies at Auto Zone (quick drying kind) to resolve your problems. This sh$t is awesome. I used it today and my alternator problems are gone and I am back into the game again. Hell YEeh!!!

What kind of alternator problems did this cure? My alternator light is coming on at >5,000rpm, and I'm not looking forward to replacing it!

i had that problem too, but i took the alt to a place that rebuilds them, they tested it, and it was putting out a solid 140 amps (yes i know its rated at 130)
im hoping the problem will be gone when the 3L is in

At what speed? I'm sure my alternator would test as charging fine at <5,000rpm, but that doesn't it's not reaching the end of its life.

Taking it out of the tour tommarrow. Opening it up and replacing brushes from O'Reilly. $7.49/set. I will also use CNC electro cleaner to clean other internal alternator parts. I mean as soon as I cleaned it the first time, I got alot of original stock power back. Any contaminants on the brushes, and the lights and power dims. Since the alternator on Duratecs are closest to the ground, dirt and other contaminants enter the alternator through the cooling slots and build up over time alot easier!

Make sure you replace the springs as well. The problem youa re experiencing is due to the brushes being worn down and the springs are sprung out... At high rpms, the springs no longer provide enough tension to keep the brushes from floating freely. When the brushes start floating, you get your ALT light.
The same thing happened to my Alternator at 90,000 miles and I replaced the whole thing. At that mileage, the bearings in the alternator need to be replaced as well as the regulator, brushes, and springs. Make sure you do a thorough job. You don't want to have to take it back out !!!
