Hi,

Please excuse my poor use of english, as it's not my native language...

Yesterday I changed both spark plugs and wiring on my '97 Mystique. Wires were cracked and the plugs were way overdue!

After restarting the engine, the Check Engine Light came on - so I pulled fused #4 and #11 to reset it, and it came back on as soon as I restarted the engine a few minutes later.

After going over the parts I touched, I noticed a broken connector, on the right side of the coil pack. It's a 2-wire connector, leading to a black box just underneath the coil pack. I don't know where it's supposed to be plugged in!

The wires are about 7-9 inches long, under a plastic sleeve. The female part is broken, so all I have is wires leading to both male and female connector parts, and the two "forks" that are probably part of something else I can't see...

The wires going to that connector are green on black and black on green (I hope my yellowish flashlight didn't set me wrong).

I have a feeling that this connector is the source of my problems - anyone knows where it's supposed to be going? I'm suspecting a sensor of some kind, the absense of which would trigger the CEL..

If I can't find help here, it's off to the dealer, unless I can find a neighbor with a Duratec Contique in the driveway!! smile

Thanks in advance for any information ...

Kyo

The wire colours you describe indicate circuit for EGR vacuum regulator solenoid. This is the black plastic device with a round top, to the right of coil pack, mounted on intake manifold.

Hi again!

I've been able to repair everything this morning, thanks to you! The EGR vacuum regulator solenoid was easy to remove, and the connector was literally ripped off from behind of it. I've been able to glue it in place with industrial-grade glue - it should hold on for a while, more than enough for me to get a replacement part.

Now the CEL is gone, and engine purrs like a kitten.. smile

Thanks again!
