I have a 96 gl 2.5 with a bad coolant leak. I finally tracked it to the water pump (underside) and it leaks like crazzy when running. The heater blows hot and running the car on defrost started to lower the temp it runs about the M sometimes higher. I did a search about pumps but did not find what I was looking for since my car still blows hot air. What exactly should I replace? Front of pump and housing and T stat, or just the fromt of the pump? I blew a upper heater hose last year and that was kind of a pain to replace, so I would like to do as much as possible in one shot. Any help is appreciated as I need to fix it tomorrow. I am afraid the car will overheat if I wait much longer.
Thanks

The pump is a flat piece with the impeller on one side and the pulley on the other. This is what needs to be replaced.

Good idea to replace the thermostat (every 2-3 years) and backflush the block, heater core, and radiator (doubly so if pieces of the impeller are missing).

Pull out the intake duct and the battery for plenty of room.

Where exactly is the coolant coming out of? Is it a tube connected to the waterpump, or the housing of the waterpump?
I had a leak and it was a coolant hose. Disconnected, cleaned parts and reassembeled and problem solved.

If it's coming from your pump (where the two parts meet) then you may just need a new waterpump gasket...

Same waterpump in 4 cyl & 6 cyl????

Well since you are replacing the water pump, you might as wel replace the coolant hoses before they fail, and it will save you time later on, put in all new coolant, repalce the timing belt because that is supposed to be done every 60,000 miles, also the tensior spring, because if that things locks up, everything that the timing belt controls camshaft/crcnkshaft, alternator, water pump controls will lock up and the valves will hit the pistons and they will be bent it is bye bye Contour.
