I just replaced my IAC on my 99 SVT, and while doing so broke the little green EGR vacuum hose. Is this something that I need to replace ASAP, or can I wait a week or two? Is this something that any auto store carries, or will I need to get it from the dealer?

I found that these little hoses can only be replaced by Ford....they are custom made hoses... However, what is wrong with the EGR hose?

One of my vacuum hoses had a cut in it...so I cut it clean and made a ..shunt so to speak. I bought some of that clear hose tubing thats quite flexible...cut a little section about 1"...then I used this little piece to bridge the gap between the severed pieces... basically a vacuum tight sleeve for the two ends.

This should work for awhile as it is not too close to direct heat.

Do you understand what I did? Did I explain well enough? probably not....

...also you can drive with out the EGR ....your gas mileage will suck and you'll probably have rough idle, but I can't see a broken hose leaving you stranded at the side of the road.

The EGR is there for emmissions and to improve gas mileage. It sends Exhaust Gas back into the back into the intake manifold because the exhaust still has unburned fuel...

You should be ok until you fix the hose.

The EGR is used for 2 reasons. You hit one of them.

The primary reason is to reduce emissions by reburning the unburnt fuel in the exhaust.
The other reason is to cool the cylinders down on engine decel when the PCM trips max spark advance (which the PCM does to "reduce emissions" )

The EGR is not used under heavy load or WOT.

With the EGR unplugged you will trip a CEL and run in limp mode. Deadly rich, poor mpg, and poor performance.

Morale of the story. Just fix it already!
