Last night driving to the grocery store the car was acting "weird". Symptoms typical of no secondaries: no 3800 rpm bump, falls flat on it's face over 4k rpms, strange almost "hollow" labored sound to the intake (not the whoosh of a clogged cat though). I figure no big deal, secondaries are shot.
I get home, hook up the OBD-II sacnner and "turn on all outputs" expecting to see the secondaries not open, but they do. Got a big screw driver and tried to push on the lever to see if the motor is weak, but they were fully open and weren't going to budge. Ran KOEO, KOER tests and neither generated codes. Did a quick scan and most data looked normal, but idle timing was only at 5 degrees advance. (Typically I see about 15 degrees, like this morning with ECT at 198 and IAT temp at 95 the advance at idle was 17). This may have nothing to do with it, just noticed it was different.
For the secondaries, could it be possible the motor is too week to open them against air flow, but with the engine off it can still do it? With scanner connected this morning and the engine cool, the problem didn't repeat.
I'm going to try again on lunch after it warms up again.
