I am running on 215/45/R17 currently but I am looking at going with 225/45/17. Will I have any issues with that size?

Depends on your wheels offset and sometimes your suspension.
98.5 SVT
91 Escort GT (almost sold)
96 ATX Zetec (i brake to watch you swerve)
FS: SVT rear sway bar
WTB: Very cheap beater

The tire wall will be larger on the new ones, so you may have problems with your speedometer accuracy, and you might encounter rubbing. The first numer is for the width, second is the percent of the width and accounts for the height, and the third is obviously the wheel size it's going on. Since this is a wider tire, and the same percente in height, than it will have an overall larger outside diameter. Also since it's wider, you may have problems putting it on your wheels, since those are still the same width. Even though rubber flexes, you don't want an unusual pressure on your tires.

I understand what all the numbers meant but thanks. I am concerned with rubbing when I turn the wheels left or right mainly. As for rubbing I might go with a 40 series tire instead.

Sounds like you won't have a problem then. Best of luck. Consider the Goodyear F1's. Tirerack has them cheap. Best tire for the money. They are only dry and wet traction though. So no snow. BUt you have 17's, so you should have the 16's that came with the car to put snow tires on... if ya need them.

The 215/45/17 is the same overall height as the stock 15" tires, only wider. Staying with this size will insure the best fit with the least problems.
