So when I step on the breaks at high speeds I'm starting to get shaking of my steering wheel. I need to replace my front breaks and rotors.

My thought is should I go with stock SVT rotors? Should I go with slotted, cross drilled, or maybe even both?

Anyone able to give feedback on these would be great. I'm not looking for people to give opinions on these when they don't have them on their CSVT. I'm looking for people with any type of slotted or cross drilled on their contour to tell me whether they like'em/hate'em what ever.

thanks!

There has been a lot of posts about slotted and drilled rotors. I'm sure that you will get more opinions than mine but here is my $.02 worth.

Slotted and / or drilled rotors don't really do much of anything to help the car stop faster. They are more likely to crack as witnessed by many racers.

In my opinion, don't get slotted and / or drilled rotors unless you just want it for looks. And they do look good.

I'm in the process of installing new rotors and pads on my tour. I went with the SVT brakes on the front. I'll know more on the difference tommorow when I'm done installing. Some jerk stripped the star bolts on the rear calipers. I spent 2 hours trying to remove them with some help. I can send you pictures when I done to give you an idea.

Cross drilled respond very nice. My brakes run 100% cooler and brake so much better. Check out the pics of the finished job. linky

very sweet. i know their job is to cool the brakes. but for our everyday driving cars, (in my opinon) is not worth the moolah. with all new brakes and rotors, the rotors being blank, it is a much improved braking system, even though its mostly stock.

It's the stock rotor size on the SVT's. That makes for a very good increase in braking power from the stock 96 contour with 4 wheel disk.

The point of holes in the rotors is not now, nor has it ever been, to "cool the brakes," but to expel gas released from the brake pad at extremely high temperatures--a phenomenon known as "outgassing." A bit of heat sink mass (cooling efficiency) is sacrificed to solve a very specific problem encountered by race cars on track. (Everything is a compromise.)

The other thing sacrificed is pad and rotor longevity. But, hey, as long as it gets us through this race, and saves us a few tenths per lap, it's worth it, right?

With modern pad materials, outgassing is less of a problem, even for race teams, and crossdrilling has proven to be less than optimum. Slotting achieves the same gas management objective, helps keep pads "clean," and offers less risk of rotor cracking. Still, when you look at most race series, the cars typically run either smooth-faced or slotted rotors.
