95 Contour GL 2.0L - pretty sure the previous owner had the fuel tank recall done.
I've noticed for the past couple months that when I fill up with gas, the fuel gauge takes longer than normal to move to Full. I've done a bunch of searching both here and in the archives and didn't see anyone that had a similar problem (most people had erratic readings on the way down to empty and not the other way around).
I recently replaced the fuel filter (figured it was probably due for that anyway) to see if that'd change things, but I'm still having the problem. I also took the gauge cluster off to see if there were any noticable problems with the gauge. None that I could see, the needle moved smoothly, but the problem still exists.
I noticed in those other threads that fuel sending unit was recommended as the required fix.
Any ideas on what my problem could be?

I think from the time I start the car, let it warm up, and then drive about a mile, the gauge finally reads what it should read. It's a snail's pace.

I don't know if its similar, but I've noticed a "delay" in my gauge (on the Sport). For example, I'll happen to notice its at 1/2 tank on my way home from work. Park the car, and its still at 1/2 tank. Later, I'll get in and start it up and all of a sudden it'll drop 1/8 of a tank. It'll hold there until I stop and restart, then it will drop again. Is this like what you're experiencing?
On long trips the needle will gradually drop like it should; this only seems to happen on short trips. I haven't complained only because its really not a problem for me. I hardly ever let it fall below 1/4 tank.

it always goes down the appropriate amount during use (well when it finally finds its way up to where it should be), so I only seem to have problems after filling the tank and each startup afterward.

i have something like your expeirencing it take for ever to go down but it goes up fine also when i get about 125 miles on it it starts to drop faster after that and the mileage goes way down because if i fill it up with 3/4 a tank the mileage is like 25 if the tank is 1/4 or below its like 18 and that really sucks as i am a college student

these are the problems that were mentioned in the search I did of the forums here and the archives. For this problem, people were suggesting there was a problem with the fuel sending unit.
