I have a new MIL 0430, it says "Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)" Can anybody offer advice here. Is this the EGR valve gone bad or pre-cat?
Thanks in advance.

Front pre-cat.

Cats have an 8-80 warranty.

You know I hate to say this, but, consult the Dealer.

I've got a P0420 - Bank 1 precat.
Dealer says it's covered 8/80

By 8/80 I take it you mean 8 years or 80K miles, well I have 106K so guess I'm screwed. What if I replace with headers?Little more expensive but I wanted to anyway.
Thanks

a full set of headers will cost you about the same as that one stock exhaust manifold. Your other option is gutting them.

Or just install a MIL eliminator and let it go at that.

The PCM judges catalyst efficiency by comparing upstream and downstream oxygen sensor readings. The U/S sensor is also used to adjust fuel trim, but the D/S sensor is just for monitoring the catalyst IIRC.

Replace your Bank 2 (front) downstream O2 sensor and see if the code returns. I had P0420 a couple of times last year, but it hasn't returned in over a year since changing the (back) downstream O2 sensor.

HTH!

Thanks for all the replies,
I think there must be some miunderstanding, it's not the cel that bothers me, My car won't idle with the heater or ac on, it dies!
I will probably just gut the precats and install a set of mil eliminators.Seeing that I really can't afford a set of headers at this time( all my money is being sunk in the 65 mustang project ).
