I've not seen any faster buildup of gunk or ill effects from gently cleaning the TB and upper intake ports with TB cleaner. (Over 40K miles since initial cleaning...) Oh, OK! I understand that you and several others have cleaned the TB with no problems afterwards but why the heck would the dealer not do the same? Oh, wait, I know why, they make more money by replacing it instead of spraying some cleaner down there and wiping it off! Dealers=Stealers as if ye'all did not know! Stephen

Many dealers do clean the throttle body. They recognize that the teflon coating does cut down on the gunky build up, but doesn't really prevent it. Before Ford introduced the teflon coated throttle bodies, cleaning was even more essential. After they started the teflon treatment, Ford would no longer pay for cleaning under warranty.
Ford has also converted to DRI (Deposit Resistant Injectors). Before converting to DRI, injector cleaning was also more critical. They also claimed that cleaning injectors was no longer necessary. It did help, but they soon backed away from their attitude of "never needs it anymore".
As to what is causing your check engine light, it is all speculation until you read the codes and check it out. Literally hundreds of things can trigger a check engine light.

pulled codes and all is well. I don't know the codes oof hand, but it ends up the cooling fan or sensor was telling the computer that the fan was unoperable. Fan was checked and works fine. TAs always, thanks for the interesting discussions.

leaving the gas cap off will throw a CEL. your contour should be a vacuum-operated system. it senses a vacuum leak and the CEL goes on.
