Well, my water pump let go yesterday on my way home from work (I know, I know, get in line!!). Luckily I was about two minutes from the dealer, so I idled it in and shut it off as soon I was stopped. A bit of coolant had already leaked from the tank. I just hope I didn't do anything to the engine from driving it that little ways while the needle was pegged... frown Anything I should know about, i.e. TSB's, recalls, secret recalls, issues? I have an extended warranty, so I'm pretty sure it's covered (I hope!)
Thanks for your help!

I'm not positive, but they will probably replace it with the same piece that just broke. You may be better off asking them if they have a metal impeller water pump. If not, tell them to go to NAPA and get one. laugh

Well, dealer just called me back and they say it's the thermostat. I'm not convinced, but anyway... I'll be sure to drive in circles around the dealership once I get it back. If it overheats again, I'll giv'em a piece of my mind! mad

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Now the dealer calls me back AGAIN and suggests to take apart the water pump to check the impeller! mad mad I wonder if this would have come up at all if I had not mentionned anything about the impeller...
This is definitely the last time I deal with Sterling Ford. I am hopping mad, and they won't take my money so easily!

Hey, at least they admit there could be a problem with the pump. I'd replace both the pump and the thermostat. They'll use a Ford pump but at least it should be the so called upgraded one and you won't have to worry about the cone coming loose a thousand miles from now.

Mine went out at 48000 miles, when the car was just out of warranty. I *****ed about it to the dealer but still had to pay 25% of the $400.00 job
I asked how a water pump could wear out ( it didn't leak) and was told that it was causing cavitation. I only found out this is a common problem when I joined contour.org

My water Pump went out less then a week ago, and they too thought it was the thermostat...Well they were wrong. It was the waterpump and I'm guessing yours went out too. Happens on a lot of these cars at 50k+, as I'm sure any owner knows. Make sure they don't screw you over with a plastic one. Get a metal one.
