As long as they're the same brand and size,,, I understand what you mean with the struts though. After 10k miles or so they could be singficiantlallylyl different. But shoes are bout the same.

Well this is deal, I was able to get both fron SVT struts and springs off a 2000 contour. One strut has 50k and the other had 46k, which I figured are close enough. The rears are for a 99 with 40 k on them. I will eventually replace the front struts with new svt's but I figure this was a cheap upgrade from the stock gl springs which both front springs were broke at the top.

I hope you're doing the install yourself, otherwise it's not that cheap of an upgrade.

Yeah, doing the job my self and should be really easy due to the struts and springs are assymbled so its just a direct swap.

I dont know if it is just me or not, but this front strut changover was a tough job. It wouldnt have been so hard except I had to undo the ball joint in order to bring the hub down far enough to remove the strut from the hub. The haynes says just undo the pinch bold and pull down on the strut adn bring it out (not that easy) Anyways, I did manage to get the SVT's installed and they are a good upgrade. I notice the struts absorb bumps alot more than the gl's and overall the car handels better and seems to be a little more responsive on sterring. Im glad I did the upgrade and I still have to do the rears, but was so worn out from doing the fronts I have put off untill next weekend. Thanks for all the input..

The rears are so much easier than the front. There is a how-to for both the front and rears that you should follow located on the how-to page on the main page of this site. Though even with the how-to, the front is a PITA till you get the hang of it.

Welcome to the club

For me the most helpful thing was to have a strong roommate
step on the control arm to push it down.
Probably because of the less weight, the SVT struts seem
to hold up much better - I did the swap at 110k (orig. was total toast)
now at 155k the (used) svt suspension is still as crisp
as it has to be.
And yes, as Kremit said the rears are a cakewalk.
