Well, the 100 degree weather here finally got to my mirror...it fell off yesterday. (First time ever on any vehicle!!!!) Yes, I keep my windows down a little...at work, we have to park in the sun - no choice.

Does anyone know if any other epoxy will work besides the tiny tube that they specifially sell for this? I hate to pay almost $3 for a one time use, when I could buy another larger tube of epoxy for around the same price, & have plenty left over to use on other stuff.

Thanks!

When I was younger I tried using lots of other stuff...none of it ever worked...my mirror kept falling off every couple of months. I did not even know there was a special kit for this back then.

More recently I have used one of the special little mitrror re-attachement kits twice and never had a problem afterward.

The special stuff is quick-setting. It also contains a cleaner primer which promotes adhesion. Regular epoxy would have the wrong thickness and be prone to thermal failure. It also takes to long to cure. You will be happier with the $3 special adhesive.
TIP: Before you clean the area, make a crayon mark on the outside of the windshield where the pad button goes. Also, be sure to remove the pad button from the mirror bracket before you start. You will need a smal screwdriver or allen wrench.

Clean the glass with a razor.
Glue just the pad on, and hang the mirror later.

You might try talking to a windshield shop. The stuff they buy has the same Loctite part number but it is in a larger container. Also they use it often enough that it is fresher (very important) I've had better luck with this than I have with the small tube. If you catch the guys at the glass shop in a good mood, they just might do it for free.

I believe the "special stuff" is a cyanoacrylate. When the mirror on my E-250 fell off after lots of sunlight, that's what Ford used. It fell off again. I mixed up some epoxy and put it on carefully. The mirror is still there after about 8 years. There was and has been no problem.

for some reason when i bought my car it didn't have the rear view mirror attached to the windshield....it was in the trunk....when i tried to put it on it wouldn't fit and the pad...mirror base was much too small

i just took the mirror outta my taurusaurus and used it...was still a bit too small so i krazy glued it to the pad....its still sticking over a yr later, with only problem being that the mirror doesn't fit completely over the pad
