The "extra" block that I have to replace my blown 3L spun a rod bearing. I'm going to use the crank from the blown block on the replacement. There will be no machining required to reshape the block. I'm going to get Clevite 77 bearings, should I just get some bearings without plus size? If I have to use plus size, how do I measure what size I need?

If you spun a rod bearing, then you need to Mic the crank and see what the diameter is and if it needs to be ground down at all. If so, then clevite makes a .25 and .5 mm undersize bearing for the rods.

Here is a link to an old discussion of Clevite 77 bearings and various undersizes.

He is using a crank from an engine with a bad block and installing it into a block that spun a bearing so the crank would be fine and not need any work.

That depends on what grade bearings the originals were. He still needs to mic the crank and rods to be sure. Can't put a grade 2 crank into a grade 1 block without clearance issues and vice-versa.

So how do you "mic" the crank and journals?

Mic as in Micrometer to measure the bearing surfaces across several areas on each journal.
