Im getting "4-5-4" flashed constantly. I didnt hit any bumps, no water under the hood, just driving along and it starts flashing. Anyone that can tell me what this means, I would greatly appreciate it.

This is a common problem that is addressed by a recall.

An Air bag 4-5 code is:

'LH crash sensor not mounted to vehicle properly'

The recall specifically addresses this problem. The dealer should replace both left and right crash sensors.

Search the forum archives for the recall number.

An Airbag fault disables the system. They will not go off.

Ok, I called the dealer I got the car from, and they claim that the recall was done before I even bought it. This was in December of 1999, and I dont know how far back the recall went. The recall that was supposedly done was to fix the pigtail wiring that was corroding and causing a malfunction. When I mentioned the code I was getting, they said this was the recall to fix it. This was done exactly 1 month before I bought the car. The dealer claims that since the recall was done once, the work will have to come out of my pocket. I called the company I have the warranty with and the lady said if its the sensor, it is covered.
How hard would it be to replace this sensor myself? How much does one cost? If its something the dealer doesnt want to do for free and its not covered under warranty, I want to do this mtself, rather than pay big $$ for the dealer to mess things up.
The guy at the dealership was so nice and helpful until he found out the recall was already done, then it was a total change in attitude. Basically he told me it was my problem, not theirs anymore mad
Should I take the car in and have them look at it, or should I try to fix the wiring myself?
Thanks for the help so far smile
