I started driving today and out of the blue, my transmission doesn't want to shift right. I've never had any trouble with it until today. If I try to turn off the O/D, it just blinks. Please help.

Is this a 4 or 6 cylinder? I guess your talking about an automatic right? First thing to check is the transmission fluid with the car warm, idling, in park on a level surface. It should be up to the line and the fluid should be sort of clear red in color. If the fluid is brown or smells burnt, it's probably already too late, but a flush and fill with fresh Mercon fluid may help. Changing the fluid out every year (or every other year at a minimum) is recommended for our cars.

It looks dirty but it doesn't smell burt. Thank you for the reply. I have the 2.0L DOHC

Just went to ford and the checked my transmission. I have a broke band in the tranny. $1100.00 just for the labor. Trading the can tomorrow.

Well they last a lot longer if you get the fluid changed. I have mine done on every car in my family has every 20,000, doesnt matter what the manufacters says that is when I do it to be on the safe side.

May just need the underhood harness change if was never done. It may have lost a pickup like the shaft speed sensor or the gear sensor due to broken or grounded wire.

man dont take the car to ford for tranny work they rip you off check the price of some other shops before you trade i got a new valve body and belt for 900 including labor
