Lately I have been having major issues with my 95 Mystique's ATX, (Very hard 1-2 shift, going into neutral while going 75 eek ) I ran the codes and on the KOEO 628 came up (Excesive converter clutch slippage.) Ok, would drain/fill the Tranny fluid fix this. (Not flush, I have read enough posts to know that will probably worsen the problem.) I know a tranny replacement is in the near future, but is there any way to prolong the inevinable? Advice, guidence, anything would be greatly apreciated.

You got a code for the convertor slipping? Wow, I never even got that and mine's toast. Thats not to say that yours is any worse though.

Regarding your question about delaying the inevitable: My '87 Mercedes has around 280K miles on it and has never had tranny work done to it. Last month it started acting up and shifting hard, sometimes slipping. At the reccommendation of a tranny tech, I poured a tube of something called "Dr. Tranny" in and this instantly solved all the weird things going on. It was a small red tube and only like $4. I donno, it may be worth a try.

Whatever you do, do it before your fluid burns or it will be too late! shocked

I drained and filled the tranny, there were metalic particals in the fluid (which I believe is normal.) The fluid was a little burnt, but I think I caught it in time. Also reset the computer. Took it for a little test drive and it shifted great. Hopefully it will stay that way for a while. Maybe I will dump some Dr. Tranny in for good measure, maybe get an extra couple thousand miles out of it.

Thanks,

Eric

The 1995 CD4E ATX was known to blow out the pump seal and cause the 0628 code.
A straight replacement, not a rebuild, is probably the safest way to go.
There are too many new parts to replace, and if not done correctly, can cause too many problems.

For more info go to...

ALso, there isn't any drain/fill service on this ATX.
FLUSH is the ONLY service recommended and your FORD DEALER,
has the correct tool to accomplish this with.
