The problem has only happened in the rain twice. When I was coming to a stop my battery light came on, I lost power steering and power brakes, but the engine was still running. I also had the A/C on as well. I'm thinking water is causing the alternator to short out but I'm not really sure how the steering and brakes tie into this. If anyone could help me understand how all this could tie into together it would be a huge help. Thanks

Is it possible that the accesory drive belt could be slipping? Is this possibly the first smart thing I've ever said? Let's find out on the next episode of... somebody else post and tell us if I'm right.

I get the odd time I go thru a puddle and get a belt slipage. When it does this it always chirps as it catches again. So if you hear a chirp that may be it or....on to the next poster. wink

The problem you have there is the belt slipping. Whenever I hit a big puddle at a fairly good rate of speed, I have the same symptoms. Everything connected to the belt stops running. The splash guard must not be adequate. The best way to avoid that trouble is not to hit puddles with your right front wheel to hard, or when it begins to slip, slip the car into neutral and rev it to about 3 or 4 thousand rpms and when you hear it squeal, thats means its catching again. As far as I know, that does not damage your alternator. Hope this helps! cool

Check under the fender to see if the splash guard/all inner fender liners are fitted, some dealers leave them off etc.....

I think ford has a TSB on this very subject. If it is the same problem, it certainly is the inadequate splashguard. A call to the ford dealer will certainly get you a part number. If you want, I can llok up the TSB and find out for you.

Good Luck

Thanks for the help guys. I did check the belt and the tension after it first happened and it seemed okay. I guess it would'nt hurt to change the belt anyways since the belt has 70,000 on it and I think Ford recommends that it be changed at 60,000(I could be wrong). I will also look into that splash guard TSB as well. Thanks again for the help guys and take care.
