Quality is job #... uh, what was that again?
Still sorry to hear about your car; glad though that Ford is buying it back; sad that it took the government to step in. Oh well ...
This forum probably gets laughed at a lot because of this "oddity" regarding the problems forum. But what can you do? Ford made a wonderful car... I just wish they'd have paid more attention to it.
EDIT: Wait a minute. I just went browsing through this forum a bit. Many new topics are from newbies (no surprise there), but nearly a quarter of all the topics on the first page referred themselves to past topics. This would be the reason why the "new topics" number is so high -- people don't continue off from the original ones!!

yea....these cars can develop some probs. I'm just happy there's a place to go to find out whats going on (CEG). Sorry to hear about all the probs with your car, honeymobile. At least you have somewhere to vent My car is starting to give me problems also. I'm out of warranty and my extended is a pain to deal with. Its close to being paid off. I just hope that when its paid off, it keeps going for a while.

Scandalous Ford. I hate Ford. I hate Ford Dealer Service and Customer Service. But I love my Contour and I'm keeping it for a long time. Ford sucks, but they do something cool every now-and-then (Focus, Contour, um... ZX5... wait that's a Focus...). Granted, they can't make them reliable. Just ask my '98 Contour which, despite being parked for two months with a bad ATX, still manages to kill it's alternator. Hmmm. Agreed, Quality Is Job #1k. Ford is lame but LONG LIVE THE CONTOUR!!!

Unfortunately, even if Ford was a great company, all it takes is one bad dealership to destroy someone's opinion. Ford would not have so many of the top selling vehicles if they weren't doing something right. That doesn't mean that I love them to death, we had an aerostar that was a complete lemon. My dad spent thousands trying to keep it running. We finally gave up and got a Honda Odyssy, but I digress. I love my Contour to death though, have had relatively few problems with it, but partially cause I got a 99 and by then a few of the bugs had been worked out. The only expensive repair was my defective Firestone tires. The radial belts shifted on them. Tires were roated, balanced, alligned as recommended as well as never once being underinflated, but I once again digress. I think that it really matters which dealership you use and who you talk to. Each one has different policies and such. Some are greasier then others. The only thing that I disagree with stronly now, is the fact that the waterpump has not been made a recall. I only have 21,000 miles so I am gonna get the pump changed out at 30 or 40K to be safe. Ford isn't perfect, but they are okay if you deal with the right people. Regardless of that, as somebody stated above, "But I love my Contour" and thats the truth!

I made that observation as well. And like someone said, newbies account for a lot of new topics/posts. That could be because someone runs into a problem with their car, searches the web and stumbles in here. And they don't search or anything, so it's always a post. My bet is that those are not the real enthusiasts, just people looking to solve a problem (and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that).

Plus remember, cars are a LOT like women- You ever had the type that was really good in the sack and performed above average? But then the other 90% of the time while just on the daily haul of life she was a basket case requiring constant maintainance and counceling. Anyone else, or was it just me who had ever had that happen? I guess you could say that Contours might only be 'good in bed'

My son had a car with no problems. He said, "The trouble with this car is that it may last forever." because he hated driving it. We have the opposite. You takes your choice.

My Contour is also good in the Sack but its just that the motor has gone out twice in it. I dont understand it. As far as the "This car will last forever quote", I had a 89 Thunderbird and it was PROBLEM FREE. All I did to that car was a oil pressure sending unit, a wheel bearing and normal maitainence. The reason I sold it was becuase it had over 100k on it. I sold it for my Contour. Now I moved on to a Nissan, hopefully my Maxima is as solid as they say they are.
