Chilton manual states that the 3 bolts from the waterpump assembly should not be reused when replacing the waterpump. Is this true or have any others experienced no problems with reusing the 3 long bolts that attaches to the engine block.

Yes, technically those three bolts are "one-time torque-to-yield" type bolts so the Ford Manual says they must be replaced. However, I've replaced the waterpumps on both of my Contours and reused the bolts with no problems (so far). Note: Only have driven about 3000 miles at most on each new waterpump so it may be too early to tell if reusing the old bolts was a bad idea.

I didn't realize that the bolts were torque-to-yield, and when I changed my WP I ended up snappd a bolt!

Since I needed the car fixed in a hurry, I just went to the hardware store for a regular replacement bolt, and also bought a torque wrench so I wouldn't overtorque them again!

Havn't had any problems with the non-ford bolt, and I've got ~10k miles on the new water pump.
